This is an amazing six-day trip that allows you to get to experience the beauty of Iceland. It starts in the capital city of Reykjavik. Here you will begin your day at the beautiful Blue Lagoon. Take a relaxing dip in the beautiful geothermal pool. And have a glass of wine or an ice-cold beer to set the tone for the trip. After this delightful experience, you spend the first night in Reykjavik. Here you get to experience some of their best foods and tasty brews. Finally, end the long day (depending on where you have traveled from) with a tour to hunt for the Northern Lights.
Next, from Reykjavik, you will head out on the famous Golden Circle Tour. This is a popular scenic driving route in Iceland. It is famous for passing by some of the country’s most famous and beautiful sites. Subsequently, you visit Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, as well as hike to Gullfoss Waterfall. Instead of completing the Golden Circle Tour as most do in one day, you move off the circle and head to the charming town of Vik. Here there are numerous options for hiking as you are near Skaftafell, Vatnajokull National Park. Lastly, visit the beautiful Black Sand Beach- Reynisfjara. It is ranked as one of the top ten non-tropical beaches in the world.
Moving on from Vik, you head to one of Iceland’s charming coastal towns, Höfn. Here you will spend the night and have a lovely dinner in one of the town’s best seafood restaurants right on the water. Next, you drive to the beautiful Jökulsárión Glacier Lagoon for a guided Ice Cave Tour. Have lunch after the tour. After lunch, make the drive back to Vik, where you will rest for the evening. Later on, enjoy another great dinner at one of Vik’s other fine dining establishments. And get a good night of rest to be ready for the next day’s adventures.
After breakfast in Vik, visit a 120 meter high beautiful promontory, Dyrhólaey. It is known for being a bird sanctuary with puffin and eider ducks being the most common. Truly, the view is dramatic! Next, move on toward Reykjavik, stop to stretch the legs by hiking to a US Navy Wreck along the beach. It is a 2.5 mile (4 km) walk to the site. Afterward, drive back into the capital city making a stop at Iceland’s only Distillery. And enjoy a tasting before heading back into downtown Reykjavik. Finally, have a fantastic dinner in the heart of the city in Iceland.
After a great night of sleep, have breakfast in the hotel, check-out and do some exploring in the city before heading to the airport to fly home. Indeed, there are some great sights to visit and some fabulous shopping as well in Reykjavik, which is an easy city to walk around. The beauty of Iceland is something one must add to their bucket list if especially if you enjoy the outdoors.
